Tracy Solomon – President and CEO
I’m a native to Greeneville, TN – TEVET’s hometown. I grew up on my family farm, where I worked side by side with my family as a child and in later years worked in the community at various jobs. I participated in the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) program during high school, graduated from South Greene High School, and then entered the Navy following my family’s heritage of service to the country. My father was a Vietnam veteran who was wounded during the TET Offensive and was a Purple Heart Recipient. My grandfather was wounded and received a Purple Heart while fighting the Japanese in the Philippines during World War II. In the Navy, I honorably served my country as an aviation electronics technician and as a selected member of the U.S. Navy Color/Honor Guard for high profile Presidential, honorary, and sporting events. It was during this time of my life that I developed a passion for electronic test equipment and technology.
Upon my completion of military service, I entered the business world and developed my skills, connections, and most importantly an entrepreneurial spirit and passion for solving business needs which lead me to establishing TEVET. From a humble home office beginning, TEVET is now one of the leading service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses in the Aerospace & Defense industry. I am proud of our company culture that is respected by TEVET’s industry partners, customers, and employees alike – each that are located across the nation, but have a sense of family tied to our headquarters in East Tennessee.
While at TEVET, I have been fortunate to work with very skilled colleagues throughout the Aerospace and Defense sectors – suppliers, customers, and fellow TEVET team members. Together, we have created advanced, customized solutions that strengthen relationships, lowers costs, increases visibility, and guarantees zero downtime for mission-critical programs. For instance, one of our latest solutions is the online TEVET Marketplace. It is an e-catalog that resides within our select customers’ internal systems. It provides contractual pricing, in-depth product configurations, and quote parking which allows quick quote review by both the TEVET account team and the customer. Whether the customer requests a quote the traditional way (call or email a request) or goes online, the Marketplace simplifies the entire procurement process.
Within the 15+ years at TEVET, the team and I have also been at the helm of creating long-lasting solutions, specifically through contractual vehicles. Our government designations (SDVOSB and HUBZone) provided us a “foot in the door” with many prime contractors and the direct government, but it was our level of consistent service, flexibility, and ability to create solutions that gave us our leverage. By proving our success and capabilities (over 40 industry and customer awards – including being awarded 5 consecutive years for Inc. 5000), we were able to create long-term contractual agreements with the DOE and leading prime contractors. These contracts have since been renewed and improved upon at the end of each of their terms to include further benefits for our customers, suppliers, and TEVET.
Outside of TEVET, I contribute time and resources to my surrounding community. I want to give back and share my success with the place that I call home. I serve as an active board member for Holston Home for Children, an advocate for SteppenStone Youth Treatment Services, a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) chapter, work closely with the development of the Greeneville High School JROTC program — which has been transformed from being defunded to now a nationally ranked program – and actively promote the revitalization of historic, downtown Greeneville through being a patron of the arts and owner of the recently renovated Capitol Theater. I believe that the life force of a community – and the cornerstone of TEVET culture – depends on its members being actively involved, and I hope to continue to exemplify this in my life.
